Recreational Options

Stowe has long been referred to as an outdoor playground for young and old, especially in the summer months. Visitors to Stowe can partake in a range of activities including hiking, biking, canoeing and more.

Hikers enjoy the view from the Chin of Mt. Mansfield Area Hikes

Nose to Chin on Mt. Mansfield: This hike provides spectacular views of both the town of Stowe, nestled in the mountains, and across Lake Champlain to the Adirondacks and on a clear day Mt. Washington can be seen to the east. A one-mile hike, it is relatively flat and children can easily manage the distance and terrain. To access the trail, drive up the toll-road of Mt. Mansfield, park at the nose, and enjoy your walk to the Chin, the highest point on Mt. Mansfield.

Hikers enjoy the Pinnacle Trail

Long Trail South: This is one of the steepest sections of the Long Trail. A short hike, at only 2.3 miles, it climbs almost 3,000 vertical feet to the top of Mt. Mansfield (4,395 feet). It is flatter toward the bottom, fairly wide but steeper through the middle, and very rocky at the top. To access the trail, drive up Route 108 towards Smugglers Notch and follow the signs for the Long Trail.

The Pinnacle Trail: a relatively short hike, 1.4 miles, to the summit of the Pinnacle, a 2,740-foot peak in the Worcester Range (the eastern border of Stowe). From the summit, hikers have unparalleled views of the town of Stowe and Mt. Mansfield.

Bike Rides Bikers enjoy an area ride

Cottonbrook: Cottonbrook is Vermont's first marked mountain-bike trail on state land. The trail has a nice loop, mostly gravel double track with some singletrack mixed in.

iRIDE: There are several loops behind iRIDE Cycles (across from the Baggy Knees shopping center) on the Mountain Road in Stowe. Lots of rocks, roots etc, but a very fun area for either the beginner and experienced mountain biker.

Bike Park: Not only entertaining for those riding, but spectators too! Located near the Polo Fields off to the right of West Hill Road, the bike park includes a large range of: small jumps, big jumps, bumps, banked turns and more. For those interested in riding, bring pads and a helmet.
